The Map of Jazz is an interactive website designed to explore collaborations among musicians in jazz history. Over the last one hundred years, jazz music has evolved as a dynamic network of interpersonal associations, both in the recording studio and on the concert stage.
The complex interconnectedness of this human tapestry is well documented in books and discographies, but these formats preclude intuitive discovery. The Map's data-driven visualizations allow clear and unprecedented access to the vast network of musicians who comprise one of the world's richest cultural traditions.
This project is funded by a Digital Humanities Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
